So, why the delay?
You know when you get really interested in a topic or concept and it starts to envelope you’re every thought? When you get so passionate about an idea that it makes you question other areas in your life? Well digging into this blog did exactly that!
I’m not trying to make an excuse for leaving you hanging. More so of a justification, a practice what you preach moment. While prying into other’s job satisfaction, it became very clear to me that I had reached a point of moving on. This decision was not taken lightly – regardless of the outside perception. It was not a little decision either. I am not a point in my life where I could choose to work or not work and still have food in the fridge.
What did I know? HR is successful when the best employees are fully satisfied in their roles. (Clearly this encompasses A LOT, but we can dive down that worm hole later.) I knew I needed to move on, but I didn’t think I could best represent my people without full honesty. So I jumped.
The phases of leaving a good career with nothing lined up:
- Adrenaline high. Feeling like a badass. “I just did that!”
- Shit. “I just did that?!?”
- [This could could vary for every person.] Fortunately, this is where my network and reputation came into play. I was blessed with some exciting opportunities as well as some much needed time off. “I did that!“
I did a lot of soul searching, got into meditation and visited with a life coach. I kept asking myself when was the right time to jump. They say when you know you know (probably in regards to something more romantic, but it works). Although I doubted it at the time, I now know – it was was the right time. I will also say I was very picky about where I landed! For me, I was looking for a company with a compassionate leader. An organization that saw the value in every employee, at every level that worked in the company. Everything else can be fixed!
Do I recommend this approach? NO. Well…maybe. Every scenario is so vastly different. Let’s talk about it! The intention of this blog is to give you that glimpse to that other pasture. For me to give glimpses, I need your voices!
